Surrey is known to be one of the counties with the most woodland in the whole of the UK. It also has a large number of hills, some of them very steep, so it is no wonder that it is one of the favourite destinations of avid cyclists who want to test both their mental stamina and their legs!

Keith Potter, Consultant Solicitor, is one such cyclist.  Keith took part in this year’s King of the Downs Road Climbs to raise money for Downs’ charity of the year, St Catherine’s Hospice who are based in Crawley, West Sussex.

The ride, organised by Evans Cycles, took place on Sunday 11th June 2017. The 115 mile route included 10 of the most demanding hills in Surrey and the western fringe of Kent. Starting with Leith Hill, the route covered Pitch Hill, the North Downs Ridge above Shere, Box Hill, Turners Hill, two climbs in the Ashdown Forest, Ide Hill and Titsey Hill, concluding with what the organisers regarded as the relatively relaxing Tilburstow Hill near Godstone to complete a total of about 9,000 feet of climbing.

Keith raised an incredible £1000 for St Catherine’s Hospice.  He is seen here relaxing with his bike after completing his epic challenge
