Downs has proudly announced its lead sponsorship of Dorking RFC for their 100 year anniversary.
Dorking RFC, which was founded in 1921 with just one men’s team playing on Dorking’s Meadowbank, has seen many events over the years, but, apart from a brief respite in 1940 when its men’s team went off to war, returning in 1946, nothing is stopping this club going from strength to strength.
Since it’s humble Meadowbank beginnings, the club now hosts more than 19 teams of men, women, girls and boys on the Big Field at the Pavilion in Brockham – where the club has been based since 1972.
The Club’s centenary year programme will include a number of family fun days, an anniversary match and a number of other celebrations, before rounding off the season with a Centenary Ball on 11th December.
Dorking RFC has also just opened its brand-new medical suite and gym last month, which was funded by financial backers and sponsors, with members covering more than £400,000 of costs towards the build.
Downs Solicitors, which has its oldest office in Dorking, has two further offices in Surrey at Cobham and Godalming. The firm, which has sponsored the Club since 2009, was delighted to accept the honour of being the Club’s lead sponsor in its centenary year, and as it emerges from the constraints of the pandemic.
Senior Partner, Chris Millar, said: “As two long-serving and well-established names in the two of Dorking, it made sense for Downs and Dorking RFC to come together and to support each other. We have been linked with the Rugby Club for many years, and know the great benefits they give the community, not only through their youth teams, but at large. They have also had considerable achievements within the RFU leagues over the years, a testament to the drive and ambition of the Club. We are thrilled to be the Club’s lead sponsor in this its centenary year, and look forward to taking part in their many events over the year, and into the rest of the season.”
