Nov 2012
Consultant Solicitor and former President of the Law Society, Paul Marsh, has been appointed to the Board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Paul who works for Surrey-based law firm, Downs Solicitors LLP, will be joining the Board as a Solicitor Member in January 2013.
The role of the Solicitors Regulation Authority is to give the public full confidence in the solicitors' profession through standards of qualification, performance and conduct.
Paul Marsh was President of the Law Society in 2008/09 and since then has been working as a Consultant Solicitor in the Residential Conveyancing Department at the Firm’s offices in Godalming and Dorking. He has been central to the creation of the Society’s Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) - the mark of excellence for the home buying process. Downs were awarded CQS status in 2011 and successfully achieved re-accreditation earlier this year.
A conveyancing solicitor for 42 years, he was chair of the Solicitor’s Indemnity Fund for three years and served on the Society’s Conveyancing and Land-Law Committee, which he also chaired for two years.
Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: ‘I would like to think I have a reasonable understanding of the issues facing a major sector of the profession and I hope this will be useful. Having been a lawyer for 42 years and my involvement as the creator of CQS, which involved setting standards to manage risk, will also bring value.
It is too early to suggest how the Board may develop but I would like to help improve communication between the regulator and members of the profession."
