On Friday 20 March Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced it would pay 80% of salaries for staff who are kept on by their employer.

The Chancellor announced that employers could apply to HMRC for a payment from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to pay 80% of their employees wages up to £2500 per month.

This will allow employers to designate their employees as 'furloughed workers' and keep their employees instead of making them redundant or laying them off during this difficult and challenging time. Depending on the wording of the employment contract this may be subject to negotiation.

The Government also confirmed the grant would be backdated to the 1st March.
